The White Rose Society

white-rose-society-adOne of Texas Hillel’s premier programs for campus activism is The White Rose Society, which provides a way for students to get involved and take an

active role in Holocaust education and genocide awareness.  The White Rose Society is names after a World War II non-violent resistance group in Germany and makes the point that genocide is not just a Jewish issue, but a human issue.  The White Rose Society organizes rallies and  letter writing campaigns, and petitions politicians to make a difference.

Every spring, students hand out 10,000 white roses on the UT campus to symbolize the number of people who could have been killed in half a day at Auschwitz.  The timing of the distribution coincides with Yom Hashoah, the Holocaust Day of Remembrance.
