KESHER

KESHER at Texas Hillel seeks to provide Reform Jews at the University of Texas with social and religious activities including weekly Friday Night Shabbat Services and monthly social activities. We welcome ideas and input on what we can do to make life for Reform Jews on campus more fun and enjoyable.

About:

KESHER, Hebrew for “connection” is the campus program of the Union for Reform Judaism. KESHER serves Reform Jews and supports Reform chavurot (groups) on campuses through partnerships with all Reform congregations, Hillel, and other campus organizations such as the Israel on Campus Coalition. KESHER also consults with Union congregations and summer camps, as well as campus-based Hillel professionals to help them meet the needs of Reform college students.

  • Reform Jews are committed to the principle of inclusion, not exclusion. Since 1978 the Reform Movement has been reaching out to Jews-by-choice and interfaith families, encouraging them to embrace Judaism. Reform Jews consider children to be Jewish if they are the child of a Jewish father or mother, so long as the child is raised as a Jew.
  • Reform Jews are committed to the absolute equality of women in all areas of Jewish life. We were the first movement to ordain women rabbis, invest women cantors and elect women presidents of our synagogues.
  • Reform Jews are also committed to the full participation of gays and lesbians in synagogue life as well as society at large.
