Alternative Spring Break
This year, Texas Hillel is promoting two Alternative Spring Break trips. Texas Hillel will be leading a trip to Argentina and we are also offering a trip to Israel through the Jewish National Fund. Contact Margo for more information about Alternative Spring Break through Texas Hillel.
Argentina Alternative Spring Break
Argentina Alternative Spring Break is a project of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, working with Texas Hillel, Houston Hillel, and University of North Texas, to send students to Argentina for a spring break trip that serves an educational and communal purpose.
Why Argentina ASB?
* To learn about an economic catastrophe that devastated the lives of people just like us. Jewish families used to a high standard of living lost their livelihoods and their savings. You will learn how the global Jewish community responded.
* To connect with the Jewish value of pursuing justice. Discussions before and during the trip will explore our social responsibility and how Jewish values inform the decisions we all make.
* To directly help with a project that improves the lives of a group of Argentinean Jews. We will spend two days working with our hands in a small town that needs our assistance.
* To connect with the Jewish community of Buenos Aires. We will spend Shabbat at local Buenos Aires congregations and the student at Argentina Hillel. You will also have the chance to interact with your Argentina Hillel peers throughout the trip.
* To bring stories and lessons of the trip back to members of the Texas Jewish community in order to help support the Austin and Argentinean community over the long term.

Spend Spring Break in Israel with JNF: Weeks of March 7th, March 14th and March 21st, 2010
Past participants have said: “Putting my own sweat into the land made me reconnect with it on a more personal level as well as develop a more personal interest in its future…this was true altruism and devotion to the state of Israel.” — Rhoni R., Pittsburgh, PA
For more information and to register, visit www.jnf.org/springbreak, or contact us at asb@jnf.org or 212-879-9305 x245. This trip is partially sponsored by a generous grant from the Repair the World Foundation.
“One of the farmers was so impressed with our motivation that he asked us, ‘Where were you 50 years ago?’ This simple question reminds me that the State of Israel is still young and there is so much work to be done…to ensure that it will thrive in the future.” — Jennifer L., New Jersey
Participants will be responsible to raise a minimum of $975, using an easy online program to communicate by email to family and friends. Monies raised will go towards JNF’s Blueprint Negev campaign supporting Israel’s newest generation of pioneers in developing, inhabiting, and preserving the Negev Desert — Israel’s last frontier. Once the money is raised, the program is FREE, paid for by generous JNF donors. Round trip domestic airfare is not included.
